Karren Brady talks culture, business & brexit

In May this year (2016), Project One welcomed 31 business leaders to an Executive Dinner with an intimate and relaxed atmosphere, at the exclusive private members club, Home House in London.

On this occasion, our speaker was Karren, Baroness Brady of Knightsbridge. As businesswoman, peer, ‘first lady of football’, author, Government small business ambassador and Lord Alan Sugar’s aide on The Apprentice, Karren is one of the UK’s best known business personalities.

Karren shared her personal experiences of taking on a Chief Executive role in a football club in her early 20’s. One of the key challenges was winning hearts and minds in order to make some of the fundamental changes that were needed. She talked about the importance of culture and its vital place in underpinning any transformational effort.

Karren also shared her views and experience on the attributes of people who make a real success in business. In her experience, they all have various levels of six key characteristics and a small number of them have every one of them in spades! She finished the discussion by fielding a wide range of questions from homophobia in football, through to her views on Brexit and her remaining ambitions.

The atmosphere was lively and relaxed as guests took the opportunity to meet people from other organisations, within and across sectors, discovering that they face many similar business challenges.

We were proud to welcome guests from many of the UK’s well-known organisations including, Arqiva, AstraZeneca, Aviva, Axa Wealth, Babcock International, BAE Systems, Bank of America, Bettys and Taylors, Casual Dining Group, Co-operative Bank, FCA, First Direct, Gazprom, Harrods, HSBC, Lloyd’s Register, Prudential, RSA, Santander, Scottish Water, Shell, Shop Direct, Swinton, Talk Talk, Towergate, Visa Europe, Vodafone, Xoserve and Your Housing Group.

Previous events have hosted speakers such as William Hague, Robert Peston, Jeremy Paxman, Nick Robinson, Baroness Eliza Manningham-Buller, Andrew Neill and former President of Virgin Galactic, Will Whitehorn, all of whom have shared fascinating insights into their own worlds.
