Virgin Media: Project Lightning launched by Sarah Harding

Yesterday was a BIG day for one of Virgin Media’s major transformation programmes. Two of our change leaders, Neil Drummond and Simon Birbeck have been working with the Virgin Media team to deliver the Lightning Programme.

The challenge of this programme is simple – provide fibre/cable at speeds of 152mb to 4m new premises over the coming three-four years, which practically means planning millions of routes, digging a lot of trench, laying pipe, fibre, cable to the cabinets and ultimately selling to the premises that they pass!

The programme has targeted ‘Big Cities’ as their backbone to the build programme and the first of these was announced with a celebrity launch, no doubt involving a shovel, with Sarah Harding (Girls Aloud /Coronation Street fame) in Manchester City centre.

The Manchester plan is to deliver services to an additional 150,000 premises at the cost of £75m, (of their £3bn budget) whilst creating 500 new jobs for the area. It’s a big project which we are proud to be part of. Congratulations to the whole team at Virgin Media.
