Challenge

Our customer is a satellite communication service provider, headquartered in the UK but spread across 22 countries, offering global mobile satellite services to aviation, military and marine customers. They had recently taken on Private Equity funding and were faced with declining profits due to the impact of COVID on the aviation industry. They therefore needed to materially reduce the cost of running the business while optimising the business for growth and transforming its ability to respond to a rapidly changing market in a dynamic way.

Approach

Project One delivered a whole-organisation redesign of the Target Operating Model and managed the implementation of the first phases of delivery, working alongside the internal teams. This was an end-to-end Operating Model / Organisational Design Effectiveness review covering; Go to Market Strategy, Commercial, Engineering, Product, Operations, Service Delivery, Business Planning, Process and Technology and Locations.

Project One provided leadership, PMO co-ordination and reporting, as well as coaching support to 12 workstreams to achieve tight deadlines set by the Private Equity investor. 

Early implementations included:

The centralisation of the local activities and roles within the Business Units into a central ‘Marketing and Communications’ team
The merging of Product, Commercial and Engineering teams into a single function with a material headcount and cost reduction.

Outcome

The aim was to optimise the business for growth, which involved the delivery of significant efficiency targets. With Project One’s leadership and support, these were successfully delivered, reported on, and evidenced. The support provided by Project One included leading on the ‘change management’ elements such as engaging the stakeholders and impacted people, managing the messaging and ensuring that the changes were communicated appropriately while maintaining the positive ‘growth agenda’ back-drop at every stage.
